1. Teeth Care

Apart from your skin/hair, your teeth will also make you stand out, specially for actors, YouTubers, Creators and Influencers.

Toothpaste

These are the current toothpastes that I use. I try to use affordable products, and I am also aware that some have teeth sensitivity, so I go you covered.

Breath Freshener/Oral Rinse

I have tried many oral rinse products and the alcohol in most was just not for me. Now this next product is a little more expensive, but it works wonders with my breath!

Flossing and Whitening

Flossing is one of the most important things you can do for oral and teeth health and I find that these affordable floss picks work great.

As far as teeth whitening, I know it’s not for everyone. If you have sensitive teeth you can skip these. If your teeth are not sensitive then there’s a reason why Crest 3D White strips are popular, they work so well.  I don’t use the professional white option, instead I opt for these that are more affordable. I only use them before I have an audition and only once a week, if needed.

2. Fragrances

Deodorants

For deodorant, I’m a little more picky as I tend to sweat a lot and my skin is super sensitive. For a long time I could use any deodorant, but then they stopped working for me and some even cause me painful burns.  I tried the natural options and even if they smelled great, they either did not work or also irritated my skin. I feel like only antiperspirants work well for me, but then they stained my white shirts yellow. Who wants yellow pit stains, not me. So here is what I currently use and a natural option that worked for me:

Men's Colognes

For fragrances, I try to save money, so I use some great alternatives to expensive men’s cologne that I found work just as well, smell similar and are affordable.

3. Hair and Beard

I have an incredibly unruly frizzy wavy or curvy hair. On some days it’s wavy and on others it gets super curly. Finding the right products that can help me manage the waves or curl or even when I straighten it, it becomes difficult. This is what is currently working for me.

Heat Tools

Many guys don’t want to use heat tools for their hair, but for actors, models and most professionals it is essential to have a good dryer for those days with high humidity. Here’s the heat tools I use for curly or straight hair.

Hair Styling Creams/Gel

This category is more about preference and your type of hair.  If you have thick coarse hair like mine with some waves or curls, then this should work for you as it does for me to manage unruly hair. I use the cream both for medium/long hair to create curls or waves, and it has a nice hold that’s not hard but manageable. I use the powder or shorter hair to create texture, it also has a nice hold.

Shampoo and Conditioner

There are many shampoos out there for different hair types, but most contains ingredients like parabens that can damage your hair or cause hair loss. I had a terrible experience with some shampoos that caused my hair to thin and fall out. I am currently using the following that have not caused me any damage or hair loss:

Hair Loss Treatment and Hair Oil

For hair loss or to get my beard to finally come in as an adult man I used Minoxidil 5%. I typically used Rogaine Foam in the past, but it’s too pricey. The product below is what I use the most.

As far as hair oil, I absolutely love the product below. It contains so many different oils that are great for the scalp and hair, and rosemary oil which promotes scalp circulation known to help regrow hair.

4. Skin Care

One of the most important elements in auditions, acting, modeling and everyday life is the health of your skin. It is the biggest organ in the body and what ages us the most. Belwo are the products I use:

Cleansing

Starting off with a good, but gentle cleanser. I have used this brand for a few years now and noticed a huge improvement in my skin. Below are the cleansers for both dry skin and for oily skin. I have combination skin and all these work well for me. I like the foaming versions as they tend to remove makeup as well, specially after an acting gig.

Likewise, I also use a dandruff shampoo as a skin cleanser. A dandruff shampoo as a skin cleanser? Yes, you read that right. This shampoo has an active ingredient great to treat eczema or seborrheic dermatitis. If you get scaly, red or itchy skin like I do on my eyebrows, mustache, beard, hairline or around the nose, I wash my face with this shampoo and leave it on a little bit before washing, and it works wonders.  Careful with the eyes or it will sting.

Body Wash

The following products I use for body wash:

Serums

We all need a good skin care regimen in the morning and at night and serums are super important, so here are the affordable options I use the peeling solution is only used once a week. I use it mostly in the winter because you’re more prone to sun damage in the summer. Always hydrate your skin and use sunscreen.

Moisturizer and Sunscreen

Moisturizing my skin is the most important, specially in the cold winter or the dry summer months. If you’re not drinking enough water your skin will look dull, so better to moisturize it. I use the regular moisturizer at night and the moisturizer with SPF sunscreen in the morning and throughout the day. I also buy the value size because it saves so much money in the long run. The tinted sunscreen I use for days I have to audition and don’t have any make-up to conceal skin imperfections.

5. Make-up for Men

I know as men we tend to not use make-up, but have some is essential for auditions and for gigs that you book. After all, if you book a gig for television or film, make-up is one of your stops when you get to set. Even if you’re not an actor the following cosmetics should be in your grooming kit.  We all need a concealer and the one below will not only conceal pimples, it also contains salicylic acid to make it go away. Setting powder is a must for oil/shine control specially on-camera, and the blotting paper will help you remove excess oil caused by the sun, heat, sweat, or the studio lights.

6. Grooming Tools for Men

The following are just some grooming tools that every man should have whether you’re an actor or not. We all need a trimmer for mustache, beard, body hair, and trim hair around ears or back of neck. We have to have clean, well trimmed nails on both hands and feet. Use a derma roller to help reduce morning puffiness and help drain excess liquid on face. And of course, we have to have a great hair brush and tooth brush.
